The Write Side Poets is proud to present Louder Than Life Youth Poetry Slam 2009, a spoken word poetry competition in which students ages 13-19 compete to earn a place on the team that will represent South Florida in the 2009 Brave New Voices International Festival in Chicago, Illinois.

In December 2008, students from across South Florida competed in two preliminary rounds; the next two preliminary rounds will take place Saturday, January 24 and Saturday, February 21. The rules are simple: 4 rounds, 4 poems, 5 judges. Each poem may not exceed three minutes. The top two winners of each preliminary round will make it to the finals, to be held in April.

These competitions are held at The Write Side Poets Café at The Village, 5464 NW 19th Street, Lauderhill, FL 33313. Doors open at 8:00 PM. Come out and support youth poetry. For more information, contact Ray Dominguez at twsp_poet@yahoo.com, or call 954-531-6266.

Louder than Life is sponsored in part by the Broward County Cultural Division, the Florida Marlins Community Foundation and the City of Lauderhill.

The Write Side Poets is a non-profit organization dedicated to gathering, inspiring, assisting, and encouraging young writers, who desire to express themselves through the powerful medium of spoken word art.
