Hello, my name is Shushana Fuzaylova and I am writing to you from Miami, Florida on behalf of Stand Up! For Those Who Can’t, a non-profit organization. We are planning a benefit concert called Silence The Violence 2008 on August 28, 2008 to raise funding to build a concrete wall to protect Happy Children of Overtown daycare/preschool in Overtown, Miami called.
There were a series of related shootings and gang violence outside the school which resulted in numerous bullets puncturing the school’s windows causing bullet holes in the interior walls and glass to shatter all over the children and staff. Fortunately, no children or staff were harmed, but we cannot afford to have this happen again.
These children are our future and now they are frightened for their lives!
Our solution is to build a concrete wall around the perimeter of the childcare center. Sadly we do not have the funds to be able to build this wall, which would cost approximately $16,000. We have attempted to contact City, State and Government officials to help us fund our cause, but were unsuccessful and our requests were over looked. I do not see how our children’s safety can just be ignored.
What tragedies have to occur in order to stop the violence in our community?
Stand Up! For Those Who Can’t decided to take this matter into their own hands and is asking for donations or any other contributions that could help raise money to build this wall. We cannot wait any longer. These children need to know they are in safe hands upon the beginning of the new school year. While financial donations are our primary need, contributions for materials to build, from contractors, engineers or any other supply will be greatly appreciated.
