Heavy D Dies at 44

Heavy D HeavyOn of the biggest Hip Hop icons, Heavy D was pronounced dead on Tuesday November 9th, 2011 after he was found collapsed in his Beverly Hills condo. The Rap legend was only 44 years young. The New York Hip Hop artist was taken to the hospital of Cedars Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles by ambulance and died 90 minutes later, said the police to the Daily News. Heavy D was conscious as he spoke with the cops who responded to the emergency call placed from his California home.

The entertainer had just came back from a visit to Europe while fighting pneumonia. It was said that Heavy D had recently returned from a shopping trip on Tuesday when he start gasping for air as he entered his residence. He then fell in an outside hall.

Born in the isnland of Jamaica, Heavy D reached success in the early 90s as the leader of the group Heavy D & the Boys. He made Hip Hop hit songs like "Now That We Found Love", "Nuttin But Love" and the theme song for "In Living Color." With radio friendly songs, Heavy D was one of the first rap artists to cross over to pop culture.
